The famous lagoon of Balos
is located approximately 56 kilometers northwest of Chania and 17 kilometers northwest of Kissamos. The lagoon of Balos has white sand and exotic white, vivid blue and turquoise waters. The beach on the left side of the bay is deeper.
Balos Beach and Lagoon
The beach on the right side is for a large part very shallow and only if you walk a good bit you can go swimming. On the beach of Balos itself there are not many amenities it's strongly advisable to bring your own water supplies. One way to get to Balos beach is by car over a (not very good) road and for the last part you 'll have to walk about an hour before you reach your destination.
The last part of the route is not suitable for cars. The other way is by boat from Kissamos. The boat from Kissamos makes a day trip to the island Gramvousa and then goes to the beach of Balos.
